Remember Barney from this Steal Their Style feature Well, believe it or not, this is his lovely mum! Barney previously told me his look is inspired by rock icons like Mick Jagger, but really, he got it from his momma.
Tessa, aged 60, says her signature style tip is always having one thing that makes an outfit more exciting, whether that’s some funky boots or a leather jacket.
Describing her fashion sense as ‘comfy, casual mum with a bit of style’, Tessa loves simple, clean, functional outfits that suit her shape.
She said: “Because I have a short waist I wear low waisted things, I don’t like things that are fussy or cluttered. I like things that enhance my strange shape. I’d love to have a waist, but when you get to my age you know your body and what suits you.”
Tessa wore a H&M skirt and top with Topshop boots and a jacket from Gap. She added: “The jacket is quite old, but was really expensive at the time, probably about £140 which is a lot for me but everything else was more affordable, high street prices.
“I like to take things from summer into winter and make sure to use my wardrobe year round.”
Andrea Burke Steal Their Style: Andrea Burke
Andrea Burke tells me she keeps all of her clothes even if they’re 20 to 30 years old. The 60-year-old fashionista offered up some fashion advice, before telling me where everything was from.
She said: “Go with what you feel best in, a lot of people follow fashion and I think you should find your own style identity. You can always add something to an outfit to make it your own.
“I know what goes together and I have a lot of clothes and shoes I like to mix and match. I have some that are 20 and 30 years old and it all comes back into fashion.”
Andrea wore a scarf from Pure Cashmere and a woollen hat to brave the chill. She also styled a polo neck top with a skirt from M&S which had a leopard print self-coloured pattern to it, adding texture to the look. She said: “I’ve had this skirt for at least ten years. M&S quality is amazing! My leather jacket was handmade in Greece in a little shop by an older lady who measures you up and makes them by hand, I also have a red one.
“I love this weather and wrapping up a bit. It’s nice to get your boots out – these ones are Joules, my daughter bought me these. I like all seasons and that’s what’s great about this country – we get it all!”
Anne Hurleston Steal Their Style: Anne Hurleston
Leopard print loving Anne, 60, was celebrating her husband’s birthday with a trip to Manchester from Cheadle Hulme.
She looked fantastic in a dress from independent boutique Stella Forest, which featured a midi length, red braided belt and little red cuffs.
Anne added: “I don’t tend to wear a lot of prints, but as I’ve got older I buy less and go for more quality pieces. Zara and whistles are my favourite places to shop.
“My coat is from Zara, bag is from Longchamp, and my boots are from Marks and Spencer.”
Fashion lovers will be thrilled to know that the boots are new season, and they come in a variety of colours.
Anne added: “I’m on Instagram and like looking at the independent shops. I think I get my style from my mum, she was quite stylish, too.”
