How to repair malware scanning issues in security software?

Posted on

Malware is one of the most dangerous threats to the PC. Viruses, Trojans, and other types of malware can corrupt your files, steal crucial data, and can monitor your activities. To secure the device from malware, you need good security software on the system. Software like antivirus scans the device and removes all malware. But if the antivirus is not working correctly then your device may become prone to malware infection. You should fix the security software and protect the device from all threats.

Common causes behind scanning issues in a security software

  1. You have installed an incompatible program
  2. Antivirus meets a runtime error
  3. Another antivirus is interrupting the scanning process
  4. Registry files are not working
  5. Junk is interrupting the antivirus
  6. Low RAM on the PC
  7. Some system files are not working
  8. The antivirus is running outdated

Resolving scanning issues in a security program

Check for the resource requirements

Your program will show errors if you have installed an incompatible program. Every software has some resource requirements. It will only work if the PC/phone is providing all the required resources. If your program is showing a scanning error then check for the resource requirements of your program. Now check the requirements with your system resources. If the program is not compatible then cancel McAfee antivirus subscription. If you have a premium plan then you should immediately cancel it and ask for a refund. You can claim a refund if you cancel the subscription within a month of subscription. If you can’t claim a refund then transfer the license to another device. Now install a compatible antivirus program on your system and then run a scan.

Restart the computer

Many times, your antivirus or other software can get errors due to a runtime error. These errors can occur due to any reason in the system. But runtime errors are easy to fix. A simple restart can fix your runtime error. When the antivirus shows an error, close the program and all other software on your device. Now restart the device and reopen your antivirus. Click on the Scan button and check for the error.

Remove other security software

Many times users install multiple security programs on the device. Using multiple antiviruses on the device will create chaos. It will not increase security but can show interruptions. Whenever a threat appears, both programs request the same resources and get into error. To prevent the error, you should use a single antivirus on your computer. Go to the device and check for all installed apps. Open the Apps folder and uninstall other security apps from the device. Remove all the related files and restart the computer. Open the antivirus and now run a system scan.

Fix your registry files

The program will show problems when the registry files are not working. Registry files tell the correct path to your computer. If the program is not working correctly, check for its registry files. Fix the corrupted registry files and the program will start working correctly. But you should edit the files only when you know the correct guidelines otherwise ask for technical help. If you want to fix the files manually then create a backup key before editing any file. Open the registry editor and search for the corrupted files. Copy those files and save them with the .reg extension. Now edit the files carefully and restart the computer. Run a malware scan and check for the error.

Clear all system junk

Sometimes, you can face scanning issues due to junk files. These files are not malicious but can interrupt your programs. When you run a malware scan, it checks all the files on your device. Scanning junk often causes conflicts as the files are not available on virus charts but seems suspicious. Due to this antivirus often shows scanning issues with the junk. You should clear all junk from the computer. Go to your PC and start clearing the temp files. You should also check for other junk on the system. If you can’t find the junk manually then use the inbuilt junk cleaning tool. On Windows PC, use the cleanmgr tool and it will show the list of junk files on the device. Choose the files and hit on the OK button. Restart the computer after deleting the junk and then check for the error.

Increase RAM on the PC

If you have an old system, you can get this error due to low RAM. When the RAM is low, many apps can’t work properly. Your device will only allow system software to run when the RAM is low. To run other apps, you need more RAM on the device. Add RAM to the device and then run other apps. You can also free the preoccupied RAM on the device. Check for the startup apps on the PC. If you have any unnecessary startup apps then remove them from the startup list. These apps run in the background and use lots of RAM. Remove these background apps and now your antivirus will start working.

Repair the system files

You can face problems if the system files of your device are not working. These are the crucial files for your device. If these files are corrupted, many apps will start showing errors. You should repair all those corrupted files on your device. But never edit any system file manually. A wrong edit can corrupt other files on the device. You can run the file checker tool on a Windows PC. Open a run bar and type SFC/scannow. Run the program and it will check and fix the corrupted system files. Now reopen your antivirus and run a scan.

Update your antivirus

You can get scanning issues if the antivirus is not updated. Outdated antivirus can’t remove new threats. When a new virus appears, your antivirus detects it as malicious but can’t find it on a malware chart. The antivirus stops scanning and shows an error. Update the antivirus to remove new threats from the PC. You can also get this error when the program files are corrupted or missing. You can repair the program files or can reinstall the setup. Remove your corrupted setup and then install a new antivirus setup on the PC. Open your antivirus and run a malware scan on your computer.
