A Guide to the Main Components of a Pressure Washer

Different types of motors are used for different types of pressure washers. It may vary depending on the type of applications and settings. The vast majority of pressure washers used in professional jobs usually use gasoline or diesel engines. Since most commercial cleaning takes a long time, these motors can run longer without overheating than their electrical counterparts. And since most professional jobs are done out of doors; And often or mostly in an office where there is no available source of electricity. Electric motors are typically used for light to moderate washing jobs (eg around the home, automotive and small water tanks) and are best used in indoor applications as these motors do not produce hazardous gases.

High pressure pump

You have now reached the “core” of the pressure washer model, the high pressure pump motor. Each of them are positive displacement reciprocating pumps of the piston or piston type. Piston pumps are the most efficient and have the longest life, making them the most commonly used pumps currently found on top quality pressure washers.

You will find duplex and triplex piston pumps. Pistons are usually manufactured from ceramic, an extremely tough material with excellent wear-resistant properties. The triplex pump has become the most sought after because of its more stable flow.

These pumps can be really sturdy and virtually trouble free when well maintained. Most people suspect the pump when they first encounter problems, but surprisingly, 90% of problems can be traced to causes other than the pump. Also, it’s important to know how a pressure washer pump work so you can have better idea of why and how this is important aspect too.

High pressure nozzles

These simple apparently insignificant parts are what make the whole high pressure system work. Pressure washer nozzles have a small spray hole that can be sized to produce the required pressure at a certain flow rate. This hole is a water flow restriction. Once your pump’s flow is forced through this restriction, pressure builds up. Only now you have a pressure washer system. Pressure washer nozzles with the hole closest to the pump feature provide maximum efficiency. The high pressure nozzle is a much more important element of a power washer than most people realize. This creates a restriction that allows the flow of water to “pressurize” and deliver such force. A worn nozzle will obviously reduce the pressure. An inappropriate spray hole can have the same effect. A nozzle with little wear and the correct size hole at the pump outlet can give your device the best performance.

High pressure hose

A high-pressure hose includes an inner tube through which water passes. It can be wrapped in both single and double braids with wire mesh. It in turn is surrounded by a rubber outer covering. Less expensive hoses are covered with a thermoplastic material, while better hoses have a rubber coating. Most hoses are manufactured with burst ratings four times their rated working pressure. When matching pressure washer hoses, try to use a hose that is slightly higher than the psi rating of your pressure washer. will last longer. Normal psi ratings are 3000 psi, 4000 psi, 4500 psi, 5000 psi, and 6000 psi. 3,000 and 4,000 psi hoses are usually single braided, while 5,000 psi and above are practically always double braided (2 wires).

Pressure washer hose design

A good pressure washer hose has the same design principle as a hydraulic hose. The basic design is as follows:

Wire Wrap – This is the wire wrap that surrounds the inner core and protects it from spoilage. This wrap is a braided arrangement that allows the hose to coil freely with adequate protection. Most hoses rated at 4500 psi have a single wire braid and are generally known as “single-wire or R-1? hoses. Hoses rated at 5000 psi or higher and hoses for hot water applications have two wire braids and are therefore referred to as “2-wire Or R-2? hoses.

Outer cover – the best covers are rubber. Thermoplastic protected hoses are popular on pressure washers designed to be marketed at an economical price. If high quality is important to you, I’d be skeptical of products that come standard with thermoplastic hoses.
